Summer Mandarin Language Program
Date: June 17 – June 28, 2019
Location: 1244 South 3rd Street, Louisville, KY 40203
The Confucius Institute of Western Kentucky partnered with Asia Institute/Crane House to present the “Summer Mandarin Language Program.” The program is designed as an immersion style program, which took place at the Asia Institute/Crane House from June 17 – June 28, 2019 with 48 students participating in this inaugural program. The program was taught by Native Chinese teachers from the Confucius Institute program, which engaged students with a fresh curriculum focusing not only on language content, but useful language skills with a robust infusion of culture, activities, and special events.
There are present plans to continue this program next year from June 15 – June 26, 2020. A preliminary schedule is listed below:
8:30 – Check in, complete anything left from previous day, practice
8:50 am: Group Exercise
9:00 am: Learning activities
10:15 am: Cultural Learning activity
11:00 am: Learning activity
11:30 am: Cultural Learning activity
12:00 am: Learning activities
12:30 pm: Chinese-table lunch
1:00 pm: Learning activity
1:30 pm: Exploring Chinese (elective learning stations)
2:00 pm: Reflection
